Changing my Twitter Handle

I’ve been considering a change of Twitter handles from @astrout (my first initial plus my last name) to @AaronStrout (my full name) for a while now. Well today — after some careful consideration and feedback from my friends on Twitter, I pulled the trigger.

Interestingly enough, the crowd on Twitter was almost equally split. Folks like @kyleflaherty @ericglazer and @rockstarjen gave me the thumbs up. @AxiomPR @CathleenRitt and @93Octane said don’t do it.

So I thought I’d give it a try. So far so good!

I support the change to your entire name, but then again I’m biased! Happy Tweeting Aaron@kenburbary

    It’s a win-win…particularly for your personal SEO 😉

@AaronStrout, I’m going to have to get used to that now. But seriously, I support your “name change” and actually, given the strength that Twitter has in google search, I think it’s very smart. Due to the name change and your frequent tweets, AaronStrout will be moving up the google SERPs!

Thanks gents. At the end of the day, it’s all about SEO, right?

Be thankful your full name is not Aristotle Strout-Onassis, for that would take up a lot of characters.

Funny, I contemplated moving from a less complicated handle since mine is heavy on my last name and my full name is 1 character too long for a handle. Any reply or dm issues coming up?

Glad you were able to pull of the change without a hitch (and funny: You didn’t breathe a word of this at the #UT-viewing party last night). Now comes the question: Do you change from astrout to AaronStrout on all those other social networks, too?Bryan | @BryanPerson

Works for me! I have trouble remembering anyone’s handle anyway and usually begin the guessing game with first and last name. Yet my handle is @LewisG. Who would get that? Maybe I should change.

@BryanPerson – it’s funny, I meant to discuss w/ you last night but we were so caught up in our convo w/ Keri, Susan and Diane (and then the game), I never got a chance to mention it.@John yes, I am wearing my scarlet “H” for hypocrite right now. ;)@Lewis you’re spot on. That’s one of the reasons I changed it – hated people not knowing that Aaron Strout and @astrout were the same person.
